Community Development
The Department of Community Development has the overall responsibility of assuring the proper planning and development of high quality residential and business neighborhoods, together with planning for a comprehensive system of open spaces and other enhancements to the Village's image. The department provides one-stop shopping for residents and businesses by consolidating the building project review, permit and inspection function within one Village department.

Community Development is comprised of the following programs:
  • Administration and Management provides oversight and support to the Community Development Department. This program also serves as the first point of contact in many of the customer interactions.
  • Planning develops and implements the Village's Comprehensive Plan and other plans and programs that reflect the community’s vision and guide the City’s future development.
  • Building Safety ensures that dwellings, places of employment, entertainment venues, and retail establishments are constructed to recognized safety standards.
  • Neighborhood Services enforces Land Use Codes and Ordinances. The program also works closely with the Village's neighborhoods and Homeowners’ Associations to help them understand and comply with codes and ordinances.

Changes to Electrical Fees Effective April 1, 2016
The Colorado Division of Professions and Occupations, a division of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), will restore electrical and plumbing permit fees effective April 1, 2016 following a reduction in 2014.

The Division temporarily reduced fees in September 2014 due to the influx of permit requests and the resulting excess revenue in the inspection programs.  At that time permit fees were temporarily reduced by 50% in the electrical program and 75% in the plumbing program.  The Division re-evaluates permit fees each year, and sets fee levels to collect only enough permit revenue to cover the cost of quality, timely inspections for customers. Effective April 1, 2016, permit fees will be restored to the 2014 levels prior to the reduction.  Questions? Please visit https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dora/Electrical or call the Building Department at 303-486-5783.

Changes in Electrical Inspections

Effective January 1, 2016, the Village will conduct its own electrical plan review and inspections under the 2014 NEC.  Electricians will be required to provide proof of a valid State Electrical License.  A contractor’s license application must be completed and can be found on the GV homepage under "Forms."
