Public Works Department
Public Works
The Public Works Department prides itself in assuring that the community’s public areas are safe, usable, clean, and that they promote the beautiful appearance of the community. These public areas include roadways, parks, trails, village facilities, drainage systems, and open space.

Environmental Services
Environmental Services focuses on the protection of the natural environment through managing water quality and quantity in public drainage ways, cleanliness of the 224-lane miles of paved roadways, provides consolidated single-family residential trash, and recycling to over 3,600 households, and offers hazardous household waste and large item pick up.

Facility & Fleet Services
Facility and Fleet Services focuses on assuring that the village buildings (City Hall, Public Works Facility, and Curtis Arts and Humanities Center) are clean, comfortable and secure. In addition, this area is responsible for the 248 pieces of vehicles / equipment that the Village utilizes daily in carrying out the important services to the community, including police, and snow and ice control.

Parks & Trails Maintenance Services
Parks and Trails Maintenance Services assures clean, safe, and usable recreational areas which include 193 acres of developed parks, 1.5 acres of floral beds, 254 acres of open space, 53 acres of streetscape and medians, and 43 miles of trails. The village’s natural treasures are critical to the overall enjoyment for those who have the opportunity to experience them.

Road Services
Road Services is responsible for ensuring a safe, available, and smooth network of 224-lane miles of roadway throughout the village. In addition, the service area manages the availability of the right of way (ROW) for utilities by overseeing non-village construction activities through the issuance and administration of ROW permits.

Traffic Services
Traffic Services focuses on the safety and mobility of the public while traveling in the village. Responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of 47 traffic signals, thousands of street signs, over 200 miles of striping, and 225 crosswalks. This area also monitors and evaluates traffic conditions to initiate steps to improve safety and mobility within the Village, including working closely with adjacent communities to promote regional traffic solutions.
