Career Opportunities

officerGreenwood Village Police Department is a progressive police organization with an outcome based policing philosophy.  Outcome based policing is derived from the Village’s outcome based management system.  It is an expansion of traditional policing to include problem solving, intervention, partnerships and community policing as a means to reduce crime, fear of crime, and social disorder.  The principles that define outcomes apply to all branches of government.  Public health, public education, and public safety all require a set of shared values and common goals.  They all rely on partnerships, problem solving, and prevention strategies to ensure quality of life for individuals, families, neighborhoods, businesses, and their supporting institutions.  Each of these share a common set of values frequently referred to as quality of life, such as: safe schools, safe homes, safe roads, and a clean, safe environment.  Outcome based policing is the police department’s part in assuring quality of life for all citizens.

Service Areas

Assuring a safe community for the Village is the Police Department’s number one priority.  Services to the community are provided through three service areas:  Patrol Services, Detective Services and Support Services. The service areas are broken down as follows:

Patrol Services is responsible for providing 24-hour emergency and non-emergency services for the Village.  Patrol Services is comprised of six patrol teams, the Traffic Unit, the 9-1-1 Center, School Resource Officers, the Emergency Response Team, Explorer Post, and Chaplains. Officers assigned to Patrol Services work in partnership with the community to creatively and effectively identify and resolve community concerns.

Detective Services includes Detectives, the Crime Lab, Property and Evidence, South Metro Drug Task Force, as well as Training and Recruitment.  The primary purpose of Detective Services is to resolve cases by conducting follow-up and initiating criminal investigations as well as collecting, preserving, processing and disposing of all evidence and property.  In addition, this service area is responsible for coordinating the training for department staff and the community, and conducting recruitment activities for the department.

Support Services consists of Records, Crime Analysis, Victim Assistance, Special Events, Research and Development, Grants and Volunteers.  The purpose of this service area is to keep clear records of police activity, provide information and assistance to the public, and to research and develop programs to identify crime trends and initiate programs to help keep the community safe.
