Residential Trash and Household Hazardous Waste

Residential trash and recycling pick up is provided to single family households. New town homes, apartments and condos are not included in the present Village contract and they arrange for their own pick up service. The Village contracts with Republic/Allied Waste Services  to provide weekly residential trash and recycling pick up. This makes it easy for the resident, reduces truck traffic in our neighborhoods and allows for more effective street sweeping operations which increase quality of life for residents. Large items are picked up by the city if the items are placed with the trash and we ask that you call into Public Works (303-708-6100) to make arrangements.  Household hazardous and electronic waste pick up can be arranged by contacting Curbside Household Hazardous Waste Collections Inc (800-449-7587).

Greenwood Village and Republic/Allied Waste Services work together to bring you premium trash and recycling service.

Tips on Trash

  • We think it's a good idea and would like to recommend that you bag all trash and place it in a closed container to protect it from the weather, insects and animals.
  • We do ask that debris such as dirt, concrete, rocks, bricks, building materials, sand, gravel and other bulky, heavy materials be contained and collected in small amounts and not weigh more than 50 pounds. Large items such as furniture and tree branches may be placed at the curb for a large item pickup.
  • We ask that brush and branches be cut into 4-foot lengths and securely tied or wrapped into 18-inch diameter bundles.
  • We also ask that you empty all liquid from containers before putting containers in the trash.
  • All items left at curbside will be collected - make sure children's toys and bikes are not placed near curbside trash.
  • Hypodermic needles in the trash pose a health hazard to you, your family and our drivers. Please place old needles, razor blades, or any other sharp object into a hard plastic container with a lid that screws on. Bleach bottles are good choices. Place the tightly sealed container in your regular trash.
  • Wrap broken glass and mirrors in newspaper and label them for the driver's safety and yours.

Curbside Recycling Tips

  • Pick-up dates are every week, on the same day as your trash pick-up.
  • Republic/Allied Waste's Easy Sort Recycling allows you to mix together plastic bottles, glass and metal cans in the same bin. They will be mechanically sorted at the recycling center.
  • Newspapers and other paper products (see below) are to be in their own bin. Please be sure no items can blow out.
  • Bins are available from the trash company. To request bins, please call the Public Works Department at 303-708-6100.
  • Make sure your trash bin is placed out in front so the driver will see it.
  • Recycle motor oil and old car batteries at most Checker Auto Parts and Pep Boys stores.
  • Use a tightly capped plastic detergent bottle to safely dispose of old needles, razor blades and sharp objects, but don't recycle the bottle.
  • To keep your name from being sold to junk mail lists write to Mail Preference Center, Direct Mail Association, P.O. Box 9008, Farmington, N.Y. 11735-9008

Call the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment hot line at 303-692-3320 for information on disposing of household chemicals.

Large Item Pickup

Please call Greenwood Village Public Works Department at 303-708-6100 to arrange pick up of any odd size or heavy items.  Our staff will arrange to pick up your items Monday through Friday, weather permitting.  The Village, its residents and its employees, kindly request your items be placed along the curb in the street out of the way of traffic or pedestrians.  When possible, we ask that you refrain from leaving items on your driveway, as not to damage your property. You should expect your items to be retrieved within 48 hours.  A snow and/or ice event could incur a delay with your pick up although we will complete your request as soon as our operations have concluded.  Furthermore, we ask that any contractor you may hire, haul away their debris at the conclusion of their project.  Please forward your comments or questions to our Public Works Department at 303-708-6100 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hazardous materials, such as paint, pesticides, gasoline, and propane tanks, etc., cannot be picked up by the trash company.  Village residents may call Curbside HHW Collections Inc. at 1-800-449-7587 to arrange a pick up for household hazardous and electronic waste.

Hazardous  and Electronic Waste Pickup

Oil, gas, paint, insecticide, fertilizer, vehicle batteries, acid, hot ashes, asbestos, and small camping size propane tanks are household hazardous waste items that cannot be placed in the trash at curbside. Please note that any unused latex paint can be dried out with inexpensive cat litter and it can then be placed with your regular trash.

The City of Greenwood Village has contracted with Curbside HHW Collections Inc. to pick up household hazardous and electronic waste. Please call 1-800-449-7587 for information and to schedule a pick up time.

If you have any questions, please call Naomi Pratt, Greenwood Village Public Works Department Administrative Coordinator, at 303-708-6193.
