Electrical Permit Fees

Fee Schedule Effective April 1, 2016

Fees are computed according to the appropriate chart below (A, B, C, or D)

Do not use more than one chart to determine your fee. If a permit is not filed in advance of the commencement of an installation, the inspection fee will be double, as prescribed in C.R.S. Sec. 12-23-117(3).

Trim Permit:
If a permit expires after the rough-in inspection has been completed, inspected, and approved by the electrical inspector but before the final inspection is approved, a TRIM permit must be obtained. The fee is based on the valuation of the remaining electrical work to be inspected. The minimum fee is $100.

A. Residential Electrical Only Installation - New, Remodel, Addition

(Round Square footage up to the next 100 SF for calculation)

Residential Installation - Based on the enclosed living area only:

  • 1,000 SF or less: $100
  • 1,001 SF but equal to or less than 1,500 SF: $150
  • 1,501 SF but equal to or less than 2,000 SF: $200
  • Equal to or greater than 2,001 SF: $200 plus $10 per each additional 100 square feet

Example (2,235 SF): first 2,000 SF = $200 + (300 SF (235 rounded up to next 100) x $10) = $230

B. Commercial and other fees

This includes some residential installations that are not based on square footage (e.g., garage, shop). Fees in this section are calculated from the total cost to the customer (contract price), including electrical materials, items, and labor—whether provided by the contractor or the property owner.

Valuation of Installation - Based on the cost to the customer of labor, material, and items:

  • Less than or equal to $2,000: $100 (base fee)
  • Equal to or greater than $2,001: add $10 per thousand dollars of job valuation (round up to the next $1,000) to the base fee

Example: Installation cost $5,150 (rounded up to $6,000) = Base fee ($100) plus (6 x $10 = $60) = $160

Please note: Applicants should be prepared to do the following:

  • Use the online permit system to request an inspection when the job is ready.
  • Ensure that the work is completed within the time limitation of the permit.
  • Install electrical work according to the currently adopted edition of the Colorado Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Request an electrical inspection before covering and a final inspection before occupancy.
