911 Center Ranks Overall Best Performer Across Five Agencies

Greenwood Village Police Department’s 911 Center has been recognized as the best-performing agency in the Arapahoe County 911 Authority for the first three quarters of 2025.

The GVPD 911 Center achieved an impressive average quarterly score of 99.92%, demonstrating near-perfect compliance, detailed call documentation, and exceptional consistency across all three quarters. Quality assurance scores assess factors such as professional tone, caller verification, documentation accuracy, and overall record quality.

This accomplishment is a testament to the skill, dedication, and professionalism demonstrated by 911 Center staff every day. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!

K-9 Miner

K-9 Miner to Retire After Seven Years of Service

The Greenwood Village Police Department is bidding a fond farewell to K-9 Miner, who will retire at the end of December after seven years of dedicated service with the department.

Corporal Juan Villalva has served as Miner’s handler since April 2018, when the GVPD acquired the dog as part of its K-9 Unit. Miner will continue to live with Villalva’s family, transitioning from a working dog to a family pet. Villalva looks forward to taking Miner for walks and welcoming him back into the home with his family and other dogs.

“The family loves him,” Villalva said. “He loves being part of our pack.”

Villalva was promoted to Corporal in September. In his new role, he’ll serve as a supervisor, providing administrative support and oversight of the K-9 Unit.

“When I first joined the K-9 Unit, my goal was to ensure we had a wellrespected and trusted team,” Villalva said. “When Miner retires, that will allow me to focus solely on the supervisorial work and continue to maintain that level of excellence.”

Miner, a Belgian Tervuren, will turn 9 in March. His specialized training in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension made him a vital asset to the GVPD. Over the years, he has assisted with hundreds of service calls, both in Greenwood Village and in support of several nearby law enforcement agencies.

We would like to wish Miner a happy retirement and offer our heartfelt thanks for his commitment to keeping the community safe and taking illegal drugs off the streets!

Holiday Tree Recycling

Greenwood Village offers holiday tree recycling pickup to residents of single-family homes from December 29 through January 16, 2026.

Residents may place their trees curbside on their regularly scheduled trash day and crews will collect them the following day. Please make sure the trees are separate from your household trash and all decorations have been removed. For more information about the Holiday Tree Recycling program, email Parks, Trails, and Recreation or call 303-486-5773.

After January 16, holiday trees can be disposed of by coordinating a Large Item Pick Up with Public Works. Large Item Pick Up is a free service for residents, but they must call ahead to schedule a date and time. Learn more about Large Item Pick Up.
