Memorial Tree / Bench Donation Program
The Memorial Tree and Park Bench Program was established by the City Council to provide family members and friends of departed village residents with a means of memorializing their loved ones. Donors are responsible for all costs associated with the selected memorial bench or tree, the memorial plaque, and all other materials and costs associated with the installation and continued maintenance of the bench or tree.
Memorial Tree Program
The Memorial Tree Program donations will be considered for all parks, trails, and open spaces within the Village, upon approval of a suitable location by Village staff. The donor shall work with staff to determine a species of tree that is mutually acceptable and appropriate for its location. Village staff maintains a list of trees ranging from shade trees to ornamental trees recommended for memorial trees and will work with donors to select a species of tree that is acceptable for the setting.
Donors are responsible for all costs associated with the planting of the tree. Memorial trees may be recognized with a plaque in the name of the resident being memorialized. All plaque language must be approved by Village staff. The design of memorial plaques is established by the Village to promote consistency in cost, size, type, and mounting. Additionally, the Village will memorialize all donations on a memorial plaque located at City Hall. Village staff will provide regular maintenance and care to the tree, however, in the event that a tree needs to be replaced, its replacement is the responsibility of the donor.
Details can be provided regarding the variety of species of trees available to plant by calling the Parks, Trails and Recreation Department at 303-486-5773 or by email.
Memorial Bench Program
Bench donations will be considered for all parks, trails, and open spaces within the Village, upon approval of a suitable location by Village staff. The donor is responsible for all up-front costs associated with the selected memorial bench, the memorial plaque, and all materials and labor associated with the installation. The donor is also responsible for the cost of future repairs or replacement of the memorial bench, if necessary, and therefore must ensure the Village has current contact information. If the contact information is not updated, the memorial may be removed.
Although memorial benches are permitted within any Village park or open space, the donor shall work with Village staff on the selection of a specific location that is best suited to the park or open space desired. This may mean that the primary desired location for the bench may not be an option. In this case, Village staff will work with the donor to find a suitable alternative location. Memorial benches have a plaque (approved by Village staff) with the name of the resident being memorialized.
Details can be provided regarding the types and cost of benches available by calling the Parks, Trails and Recreation Department at 303-486-5773 or by email.
