Citizens' Academy
What is the Citizens' Academy?
Greenwood Village Police Department proudly hosts an annual Citizens' Academy, which offers citizens the opportunity to learn more about GVPD and their combined efforts to ensure the community's safety. The classes consist of twelve sessions followed by a graduation. Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm (location varies) from February 29 through May 9, 2024 . Two optional Saturday classes are scheduled and you will be provided those dates on the first day of class. The final session ends with a celebration for class graduates and their guests.
What do participants learn?
Sessions are designed to give participants a better understanding of local law enforcement through active participation in a variety of fun and informative classes. Graduates leave with a greater awareness of police operations and crime reduction efforts within Greenwood Village.
Academy course topics include:
- Investigations
- Forensics/Crime Scene Investigation
- Firearms safety
- Patrol Services procedures
- 9-1-1 Center operations
- Emergency Response Team
- Traffic Enforcement
Participants will tour the Greenwood Village Police Department and have the opportunity to receive training in CPR. Academy participants are also encouraged to accompany a police officer on a ride-along during a patrol shift.
