Contractor Licensing

Contractors in the City of Greenwood Village are required to obtain a license before starting work. The city does not require subcontractors to obtain individual licenses if they are working under the supervision of a licensed contractor.

Contractor licensing protects consumers from fraud, negligence, and poor workmanship. It ensures that safety standards and regulations are followed and that contractors (and their subcontractors) meet liability insurance requirements. The following license types are available:

License A: Commercial Contractor
Fee: $300

Authorizes work for multi-unit residential buildings, office buildings, commercial buildings, tenant finish and alterations, and any work authorized under Level B, C, and D licenses.

Level B: Residential Contractor
Fee: $200

Authorizes work for detached single-family residential buildings and alterations and any work authorized under Level C and D licenses.

Level C: Specialized Contractor
Fee: $100

Authorizes work for swimming pools, tennis courts, and solar installations.

Level D: Individual Trade 
Fee: $50

Authorizes work not included in Levels A, B, or C. This includes but is not limited to, alterations, moving a building within the City, demolition, house repair, siding, roofing, plastering, sheetrock, framing, excavation, concrete work outside of the City right-of-way, fences, signs, retaining walls, sprinkler and irrigation systems, landscaping, plumbing work, mechanical work, and any other activities involved in the alteration or improvement of buildings within the City. The applicant must specify which activities they wish to engage in. A separate license is required for each activity if engaging in multiple activities.

Level E: Electrical/Plumbing Contractor
Fee: N/A

Required for Electrical and Plumbing Contractors who require permits and are not under the supervision of a licensed contractor.

Obtaining a License

A contractor applying for a license with Greenwood Village must submit the following:

  • Create an account on our Online Access Portal
  • Complete the application, selecting all applicable license levels
  • Provide evidence of a valid License from another Colorado jurisdiction or proof of education resulting in certification in the applicable trade(s)
  • Provide a current Certificate of Insurance for general liability and workers’ compensation, listing the City of Greenwood Village as the certificate holder.

Note: A reduction in coverage below the required amounts or policy cancellation immediately suspends licensure until coverage is restored.
